LITTLE VALLEY — Enjoy a day of fun and fitness Sunday, May 5 at the inaugural Cinco de Mayo 5K Race.
Proceeds from the event will contribute towards future community initiatives with a portion dedicated to Saving Grace Outreach in Cattaraugus that is dangerously low on funds.
Registration begins at 11 a.m. and the 5K race kicks off promptly at 12:15 p.m., so arrive early to secure a spot. The race, suitable for all ages, starts and ends at Ellicottville Brewing Company (EBC) Little Valley on 2nd Street. Parking will be available onsite.
The $25 registration fee includes admission to the race, a commemorative t-shirt and a refreshing pint of beer or non-alcoholic beverage at EBC Little Valley. The fee also includes a raffle ticket for a chance to win exciting door prizes including gift certificates to The Bear Brick or Hughes Hotel, in Little Valley.
To pre-register, people may scan the QR Code found on the event flyers and the Little Valley Happenings Facebook page that will take them to the registration page link at runsignup.com. Registration is also open the day of the event starting at 11 a.m. before the race.
Organizer Cedric Manganiello said this is the first year of the Cinco de Mayo 5K Race in Little Valley, so they don’t have a real idea how many participants they’ll have in the event. He said the goal is 50 participants and, as of April 19, 36 people were currently registered.
Manganiello said the Cinco de Mayo 5K Race was created by the Friends of Little Valley to contribute to future community activities. He said the funds raised at this event will go towards hosting more events planned for this year.
“Our main goal was to bring people in the community together. We wanted to host a new event that would pique different interests in the community,” he said. “We also wanted an event that would support local businesses, as well as raise funds so we can continue with future events. We have ‘Music in the Park’ coming up again this summer, so funds from this will go towards paying for bands and other events coming along.”
