25 Cattaraugus County towns to elect supervisors; 19 are uncontested

Of the 25 town supervisor elections in Cattaraugus County in this fall’s election, 19 are uncontested and all but four are Republican.

Of the 25 town supervisor elections in Cattaraugus County in this fall’s election, 19 are uncontested and all but four are Republican.

The only unopposed Democratic supervisor candidates are in Ellicottville and Great Valley — Matthew McAndrew and Daniel Brown, respectively.

There are incumbent supervisor candidates running on both the Democrat and Republican lines in Red House and South Valley — Tamara Booth and Heather Lamberson.

Republican supervisor candidates are running in Allegany, Ashford, Conewango, Dayton, Franklinville, Hinsdale, Humphrey, Ischua, Leon, Little Valley, Machias, Mansfield, Napoli, New Albion, Perrysburg, Persia, Portville, Randolph and Yorkshire.

Seven towns, Carrollton, Coldspring, East Otto, Freedom, Olean, Otto and Salamanca, do not have elections for supervisors this year.

The marquee supervisor contest is in Farmersville, where Supervisor Melanie Brown and Councilmember Pamela Tilton will reprise their June GOP supervisor primary contest, which Tilton won.

Tilton will be on the Democratic and Republican lines, while Brown will be on the Conservative line.

The contest is also seen by many as a referendum on the town’s stance on wind power, particularly the proposed turbines in the town under the proposed 340-megawatt Alle-Catt Wind Farm. Brown does not favor the Alle-Catt proposal, of which Tilton has been generally supportive.

In the only other contested race for supervisor, Lyndon Supervisor Barbara Montante, a Democrat, is being challenged by Republican Donald Hall.

Election day is Nov. 7 and is preceded by early voting from Oct. 28 to Nov. 5.

Town candidates who filed with the Board of Elections are listed below. An asterisk (*) denotes an incumbent. Political affiliations are (D) for Democrat, (R) for Republican and (C) for Conservative.
