April 24, 1873: The Salamanca Sabbath School desirous of doing something for the support of the gospel, have decided to favor the people of Little Valley with a Concert on Wednesday evening, April 30th. The Concert will be the same as delivered at Salamanca’s a few weeks since and which was so highly commended by those who were present. The proceeds will be donated, we understand, to the support of the religious cause in Salamanca. Admission, 15 and 25 cents.

Mr. Rich now has a first-class establishment. He placed a card before the public in the Republican, to which we would call attention.
April 24, 1923: (SALAMANCA —) A warm debate over Mayor McCann’s plan for reorganization of the fire department was terminated by sudden adjournment of the Common Council last night as midnight approached. The situation was apparently one of a stalemate and Alderman Connelly, evidently believing that no further progress could be made at the time, moved that the meeting be adjourned.
April 26, 1923: (SALAMANCA —) Seven candidates, five of them now members of the board, were nominated for the Commission of Education, and a resolution was adopted, urging the authorities to take steps as soon as possible to acquire new sites for schools in the East End district and on Broad street, at the meeting of citizens in the Jefferson street school last night. George Place, superintendent of schools, taking up each building in turn, pointed out that there is but one room not occupied, this being in the Erie street school, that all schools are crowded and many students, due to the city’s arrangement, are forced to walk long distances.

April 23, 1998: GREAT VALLEY — A request by a neighboring school district to tell them they aren’t interested in a merger led members of the Ellicottville Central School Board of Education to realize maybe a future merger isn’t out of the question.
On Tuesday (April 21), the board considered sending a letter to West Valley Central School to the effect that they are not interested in a merger study “at this time.” In West Valley, the board is attempting to pass an $8 million building project.
April 25, 1998: QUAKER RUN — The new couple searched for a site for a home and started building when the government stepped in. Too close to electric lines, the home was moved a few feet away while the owners watched.
This was the scene Friday (April 24) at Allegany State Park as electrical crews built a new perch for two ospreys that had started building a nest between two live wires. To ensure one or both of the birds didn’t accidentally electrocute themselves, a taller pole was installed a few feet away and the nest transferred.

“It was really fun,” said Saradin, 28, and a Salamanca native who’s lived in Boston for the last seven years.
But some 30 hours later, that same finish line became the site of what authorities call a terrorist attack where three individuals — including an 8-year-old boy — were killed and at least another 176 were injured.
