Rickey Armstrong Sr., the Seneca party candidate for Seneca Nation president in Tuesday’s election is being challenged by Independent candidate Stephen L. Maybee.
Armstrong, of Salamanca, who previously served as Seneca president from 2002 to 2004, has been a member of the Tribal Council since 2014.
Maybee, who lives in Jimersontown, was a candidate for the Tribal Council two years ago on the One Nation ticket headed by then presidential candidate J.C. Seneca of the Cattaraugus Territory.
Current President Todd Gates of the Cattaraugus Territory and Treasurer Maurice “Moe” John of the Allegany Territory unsuccessfully sought nomination for treasurer and president, respectively, at the Seneca Party caucus.
The posts of president and treasurer switch between the two territories every two years.
Matthew “Matt” Pagels is the Seneca Party candidate for treasurer, and Bethany Johnson is the Seneca Party candidate for clerk.
Michael “Mike” Holden is the Independent Party candidate for treasurer, and Esther M. Maybee is the Independent candidate for clerk.

Cattaraugus assessor: John Y. Waterman Jr., Karen Bucktooth, Frank Ireland.
Allegany poormaster: Rae Lynn George.
Cattaraugus poormaster: Patricia “Trich” Patterson.
