Office emergencies can be scary and, when they occur, employees play a large role in seeking out medical attention to help ensure the health and safety of their colleagues. In the most recent situation, the employee responsibly called first responders, who administered CPR, stabilized the affected individual and transported him to the hospital.
Your site emergency procedures identify how you should contact emergency services. At most Westinghouse locations, you must dial 911 and emergency services will arrive. In other, more secluded locations, local health professionals might be the first to respond. Regardless, every employee should be armed with the knowledge of how his or her site responds. Most Westinghouse locations have a specific facility number for security and emergency needs. Know your site’s number and be prepared to assist first responders.
The next step you can take in emergency preparedness is participating in life-saving training sessions. All too often, CPR is not learned; but CPR training is offered at many Westinghouse locations, and all employees are eligible to take the course. You will learn the expanded basis of evaluating a person and assessing the immediate needs. Additionally, you will learn the basic life-saving techniques for airways, breathing and circulation problems.
