SALAMANCA —The Common Council authorized an application for an Assistance to Firefighters Grant for the replacement of 13 self-contained breathing apparatus units and 13 additional cylinders.
The grant amount requested was for $100,791 with the city agreeing to provide matching funds in the amount of $5,039, as recommended by the fire commission.
“This equipment that we’re applying for is starting to get on in age,” said Luke Stewart, R-Ward 5, the fire commission chair. “This would be really nice if we could have the possibility of getting this grant, just the chance to put it in and see if we can get it. As you can see, it’s for a lot of money.”
Each of the 13 units includes a harness/backpack, face piece and two cylinders costs $5,135 for a $66,755 total. Each of the spare cylinders costs $2,972 for a $38,636 total. Combined the units and additional cylinders total $105,391.
